Raxxil - Khorne Lord on Juggernaut

Raxxil leads the 2nd Auxiliary 'Blood Beasts', a unit of Khorne Chaos Spawn supporting Namtar's Warband. Raxxil made his name after defeating an Eldar Avatar of Khaine and a Dark Eldar Archon at the same time in close combat on the planet Illic'Kor.
Raxxil was the first Warlord I used in 6th ed and from the new CSM Codex.

Custom built from many parts - all that remains to finish is the base.

  • Head and chest are Khorne Berserker bits.
  • Back piece is actually from a vehicle CSM, the type that usually doesn't have a power pack. (only one I had left)
  • Shoulder plates are loyalist marine. (Didn't have any chaos)
  • Arms and legs from a Bloodcrusher rider. (Gift of Mutation)
  • Power pack was given to me.
  • The leg plates are from somewhere, I think it was the Skull Cannon kit, possible shoulder plates for the Herald but I'm not sure.
  • The axe is a bloodcrusher sword with the blade cut off, with an extended shaft and two Chaos fantasy axe heads joined together for the 2 headed battle axe look. (Axe of Blind Fury)
  • The chain with skull and symbol on his left shoulder were vehicle bits. (Sigil of Corruption)
  • The plasma gun came from some CSM kit.
  • Green stuff chain mail thing to cover his ass. Although his ass was proportional it looked silly with the bulky power armour on his upper body so I covered it to even it out..
  • The jugger from my Bloodcrusher kit.

The Battle Continues. January 3, 2015

Daemons v Orks

1000pts

Mission: Big Guns Never Tire
Deployment: Dawn of War

Daemons:
Warlord: Herlad of Tzeentch on disk with Grimorie and Prescience
HQ: Herald of Nurgle
Troop 1: Daemonettes
Troop 2: Plaguebearers
Heavy 1: Soul Grinder of Nurgle with Phlegm
Heavy 2: Soul Grinder of Slaanesh with flamer (Reserve)

Orks:
Warlord: Warboss
Troop 1: Gretchen with runt herder
Troop 2: Ork Boys
Elite 1: Nobs; with ‘Eavy armour, big choppas, 2 claws and a pain boy
Dedicated Transport: Trukk transport for the Warboss and Nobs.
Fast 1: Storm Boys
Fast 2: Burna Bomma (Reserve)

The Battlefield & Deployment: 3 objectives.

Daemons go first.

Turn 1

Screamers push into the centre, with a general forward push of all units.
Nobs charge Screamers from one side while Storm boys charge from the other. A number of Screamers die to the Nobs, and the claw Nobs become unengaged and can’t attack.

Turn 2

Daemonettes charge the back of the Storm Boys who are all killed except 1 which is killed by the remaining Screamers. 1VP First Blood to Daemons. I forgot to shoot the Nobs!

Ork Boys shoot and kill all but 1 Daemonette who is killed by the Trukk.
Nobs charge the screamers again killing all of them and the Herald for 1VP Slay the warlord to Orks.

Turn 3

Phlegm Soul Grinder scores a scatter of only 1’’ killing ½ the Nobs and the Warboss for 1VP Slay the Warlord to Daemons.
Slaanesh Soul Grinder flames and charges the Nobs killing all remaining except for 1 with a claw.

In the Ork turn the final Nob is killed by the Soul Grinder.

Turn 4 and 5

Slaanesh Soul Grinder wipes Ork Boys by winning CC then sweeping advance.
Burna Bomma arrives turn 4 but has no impact.

Game ends at the end of turn 5 with an easy victory to the Daemons.

Daemons: 8 (First Blood, Slay the Warlord, 2 objectives)
Orks: 1 (Slay the Warlord)

Some thoughts:

Orks failed to build in enough anti-armour redundancy in their army, putting all their eggs into the Nobs. The Nobs slaughtered the Screamers and Herald Warlord; however, when they were hit with a S8, AP3 large blast they were stuffed (no armour save, instant kill so 2W and FnP are irrelevant). This followed by S10 AP2 Soul Grinder CC attacks cleaning them up. Once they were dead the Soul Grinders were without threat.

The Battlefield and Deployment

Black Templars place Land Raider with HQ and Crusader squad and the land speeder on the left flank.
Rhino with crusader squad on the right flank.
(Sorry no pic)

The Battle Begins.

Nurgle Bikers push up their right flank while the rest of Chaos move forward.
The Black Templars advance.

Plague Marines disembark, 1 squad on the objective in the building and the other after the Rhino is destroyed by the Land Raider.
Drop pod lands and the Dreadnought disembarks. Terminators deep strike next to the Drop Pod.
Nurgle bikers assault the BT rhino and destroy it. Namtar repositions into a more central location.

Land Raider unloads the Warlord and Crusader Squad and they assault the Plague Marines.

The Cultists and Helbrute join the melee in front of the Land Raider.

The Nurgle Bikers assault the Crusader Squad that disembarked from the wrecked Rhino.

Namtar turns around and runs up the field to the objective in the bunker.
The second Cultists squad assaults the Crusader squad in front of the Land Raider.
The Nurgle Bikers continue to fight the Crusader Squad next to the wrecked Rhino.

Despite heavy losses, including the Helbrute, the overwhelming numbers of Chaos whittle the Crusaders down and also slay the Black Templar Warlord.

BT Land Speeder wrecks the remaining Chaos Rhino.
BT Terminators try to kill the Plague Marines in the building on the objective but fail due to plasma gun fire and poisoned attacks. The Terminators are destroyed.
Namtar splits from his biker buddies and captures the objective in the bunker.
Nurgle bikers finish off the Crusader squad with the help of the second nurgle biker squad.

Final Results. Draw

Unfortunately I can’t remember exactly how all the points played out, but I do remember it was a draw. It all came down to a D3 VP roll in turn 6 after Chaos held enough objectives to meet the D3 requirement. I needed a 3 (5 or 6) and rolled a 6! Amazingly this was the second time this has happened!

Daemon Prince of Tzeentch - Non GW

Size comparison with GW DP

  • The model is a Reaper mini called a Pit Fiend. It is a "Bone" mini so very cheap.

  • You can see from the size it is a perfect substitute.

Pre-battle thoughts

This is just a test run as neither of us have read the new rules. Keep it small and look everything up to see if there are any changes. Also a test for new psychic powers.

Post-battle thought

This was a hard fought battle, after Mike routed my Cultists in turn 1 he took control of the battle and I was forced into a defensive reactionary position. Mike had 3 scoring units to my 2 which meant I had to kill at least one of his to draw. Luckily I had that chance. After that point I was forced into a defensive ‘holding’ position to get the draw. If I exposed my Cultists they would have been shot to death and if I exposed my CSM they would have been shot to death – Mike had control of the centre and could hit any of my units with missiles and bolters. I could have tried to split my Sorcerer off and go for another objective, but with 2W, T4 and 3+ armour a single Krak missile would have instant killed him – not a wise choice. Another option could have been to go for the objective in Mike’s deployment zone and get Linebreaker as well, but CSM aren’t fearless so I could have easily been forced to make a moral check which would have been a big risk (I had to cross open terrain to do this) but this may have been the best option to try for – didn’t think of it during the game.
Luck got me over the line for a draw.
